The nail community splits harder by platform than almost any other trade. Instagram keeps the stagram and insta family, nailsofinstagram and nailstagram and instanails, which are dead weight on TikTok. TikTok runs on sound: nailasmr, satisfyingnails, nailsound. Filing and application audio is the hook, and that is not true of brow lamination or lash work.
Three platforms, three different sets
These are not the same five tags reshuffled. Instagram leans on community and trade identity, TikTok on content type and outcome, Facebook on plain local language. Copy the one you are posting to, then swap the last tag for your own city.

Broad
8Millions of posts. These reach far and convert badly. One is useful for categorisation, two is a waste of a slot you cannot spare.

What works for nail techs
The two second before shot is the entire trick
Open with a clear, unflattering shot of the grown out or damaged set. It reads as a relatable problem and it stops the scroll. Then hard cut or swipe. A video that opens on the finished set has thrown away its hook.
Nail rehab is the highest trust format in the trade
A multi appointment journey from bitten or damaged nails to healthy ones positions you as the person who fixes things rather than the person who decorates them. It is the one nail format with real emotional weight, and it is the strongest use of a before and after you have.
TikTok wants three to five. Instagram now allows five.
The old split was three to five on TikTok against ten or more on Instagram. They have converged. Use the niche tag slot on the specific service, because someone searching chromenails is far likelier to book than someone scrolling nails.
Three posts a week for eight weeks beats one shoot a month
Consistency outperforms production value here by a wide margin. Keep clips under thirty seconds and rotate your tag sets weekly.
Seasonality
Bridal and prom seasons drive the two biggest spikes, and December runs hot for party sets. January is quiet, which makes it the right month for nail rehab content.
The shot
Same towel, same desk lamp, same distance, hands in the same position. A ring light on the after and window light on the before is the tell everyone in the comments spots. Take the before before you touch anything, including the cuticles.
Tags to keep off a nail tech post
Instagram publishes no official banned list and gives no warning when a tag is restricted. Every tag below was flagged by at least one source during research on 1 August 2026, and these lists rotate. Check any tag you use habitually by searching it inside the app: if the tag page says recent posts are hidden, or returns almost nothing, drop it.

- 41 tags are listed on this page, tiered from broad to niche, and each of the three platform pages ranks a thirty tag rotation pool out of them for that platform. Start with the platform starter set, and spend one slot permanently on your own city.
- Why are the Instagram and TikTok lists different?
- Because the platforms reward different things. Instagram tags are community and identity tags, and half their value is that a trade magazine or supplier account watches them. TikTok tags are content type and outcome tags, and every trade has a tok suffix community tag. Running one list on both is the most common mistake in the trades.
- How many hashtags can I use now?
- Instagram capped captions on posts and Reels at five hashtags, announced in December 2025 and rolled out through 2026, and it counts the caption and the comments together. TikTok publishes no cap and three to five is the convention. On Facebook hashtags do very little and two or three is plenty.
- Can I compare two video clips in the app?
