Demolition starts on day one and the old kitchen is gone forever. Shoot from a locked off position before a single cabinet comes out, and note where you stood. This is the single most valuable habit in this trade and it costs two minutes.
Build a branded hashtag
Independently recommended by two trade sources, and it makes most sense here of any trade. It turns your feed into a browsable portfolio and lets past clients add to it. Spend one of your five slots on it permanently.
Tag the non competitors on the job
Designers, plumbers, electricians, cabinet suppliers, realtors. Every renovation involves five other businesses and tagging them is the cheapest reach multiplier in the trade.
City plus service is the highest intent pattern you have
A compound like a city name followed by remodel outperforms every broad design tag for actual enquiries, because nobody hires a remodeler from another state.
Seasonality
Enquiries cluster in the new year and again in early autumn, and good trades get booked months ahead of the season the client is imagining. The practical consequence is that renovation content sells a slot that is six months out, not next week.
Shooting a pair that survives the comments
Mark the floor. Renovation is the longest gap between frames of any trade on this site, sometimes months, and standing in the same spot is the only thing that makes the pair comparable. Same lens, never the ultra wide: barrel distortion on the before and a normal lens on the after will change the apparent size of the room more than the renovation did.
The universal rule underneath all of that, stated independently by sources in every trade researched for this site: identical angle, identical lighting, both frames. Instagram publishes no official banned list and gives no warning when a tag is restricted. Every tag below was flagged by at least one source during research on 1 August 2026, and these lists rotate.
